What is a custom subdomain?

Custom subdomain is a unique branded domain name that identifies a separate page or section of a website. It is an extension of your main domain, but with its own unique content. Custom subdomains are mostly used when you already have a website and want to separate your site’s content into distinct sections. Eg: shop.mydomain.com

Why should I use a subdomain for my Donor360 eShop?

Having a custom subdomain for your Donor360 eShop is a great way to add SEO (search engine optimization) value to your site and receive credited site traffic from your eShop back to your root domain.

Instead of embedding a javascript code into your page, you will simply link to your custom subdomain (ie. shop.mydomain.com). Thus, all your eShop URLs will be based on this subdomain. This means that search engines will index your eShop’s subdomain URL and every single eShop URL as well, giving you increased search engine back-links and increased SEO value.

How to set up a subdomain?

Step 1: Add the Custom Subdomain

On your Donor360’s account dashboard, navigate to eShops > [Your eShop] > Edit > Settings > Domains > Custom Domain. Then, enter your domain/subdomain and click on the right arrow icon on top right corner of the "connect your custom domain " section as shown in below image.

Once you submit your domain, we will review and approve your custom domain request. You will be notified upon approval. After that, refreshing the domains page will display two CNAME records created for your custom domain, as shown in the image below:

Step 2: Create the DNS Entry

Next, add the two CNAME records shown above to your website domain's DNS settings. This will connect your custom domain to your Donor360 eShop.

Below is an example of how to enter one of the CNAME records generated in Step 1. Be sure to add both records, one after the other.

After adding the records correctly, return to the Domain page on Donor360 and click the Validate button to verify the domain setup. If the status for any record shows "Failed" or "Error," it indicates that the CNAME values may not have been entered correctly in your domain's DNS settings. Please double-check the entries and try validating again.

NOTE: It takes a while for the DNS record to be published. You will have to wait a few minutes or hours, depending on your DNS server. If you have any questions or need additional assistance, do not hesitate to contact us.
